Highlights of the Week

This week, there was a lot of buzz in the entertainment world. Here are a few noteworthy highlights: Compiled by Leah T. Johnson  Viola Davis  It’s been almost a week since Viola Davis became the first woman of color to win an Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama. She had support from other recognizable African American actresses, particularly Taraji P. Henson and fellow nominee that night. Davis began her speech with the words of Harriet Tubman. Davis will play Tubman, also known as “Moses” in an upcoming bio-pic. Take another listen to Davis’ speech: Serena Williams, Will Smith Turn a Year Older  One of the world’s most recognizable tennis players and a beloved Fresh Prince of Bel-Air both turned a year older this week. Williams, 34, and Smith turned 47. It’s as if age doesn’t matter with these two because they keep getting better and better.       Fall TV Shows Black-ish While many people were raving over the return of Scandal, let’s not forget the return of the hit-comedy show Black-ish.
